Just some of the many, many bits of art and books we got at TCAF. I cannot wait to hang this stuff up. It also makes me realize that our house is almost exclusively decorated with prints from comic shows, and I am fine with that.
My favorite thing is the OWL magazine t-shirt. I LOVED that magazine when I was a kid. I wanted to be a scientist.
Also, I got to meet Pendleton Ward, creator of Adventure Time! I gave a copy of the “Finn & the Pixelsword” print I made, and he said that people had been bringing them up for him to sign. I apologized. He said it was cool.
I’m back from TCAF! Had a great time, sold a ton of stuff, met some nice people. Worth it.
This is a comic I drew for inclusion in the TCAF comics page, a newsprint handout at the show. I created Tilly back in January as a fake comic strip for “True Story”, a device to remind people to send in stories, but I really liked something about the character.
Starting next week, “Tilly Treefort: Girl Genius” will become my second weekly comic strip. I’ll post True Story at the beginning of the week, and Tilly near the end. I hope you guys like her!
TCAF is almost upon us! The Toronto Comics Art Festival will be AMAZING this year - guests like Chris Ware, Pendelton Ward, Darwyn Cooke and more will be there.
I’ll be there this weekend, selling and meeting and smiling and drawing. Come see me! I’m at table 128 - you can see me right in front of you when you enter the library!
This is a quick collage of things I am selling there - books, posters and prints. I am going to have a crazy full table.
Come say hi!
TCAF - Saturday, May 7 (9am - 5pm) & Sunday, May 8 (11am - 5pm). Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge St. IT IS FREE.
It’s out. My new book “True Story”, a collection of comic strips based on real stories sent to me by readers, is available across North America today. It’s over 100 stories, including some brand-new, exclusive stories from the world of comics, literature and comedy. Who? Joey Comeau (A Softer World), Jonathan Goldstein (Wiretap), Kate Beaton (Hark, A Vagrant), Darwyn Cooke, Dustin Harbin, Faith Erin Hicks (Brain Camp), and Paul F. Tompkins!
Where can you buy it?
In Halifax: Go to Strange Adventures, pal. Best comic book shop in the world.
In Canada: Chapters/Indigo, comic book stores, and Amazon.
In the US: Amazon, Barnes & Noble (available April 28).
I’ll also be debuting the book at TCAF in Toronto, May 7-8. It’s free, it’s at the Toronto Public Library, and it’s unmissable if you live there.
In Montreal, May 5, I’ll be doing a panel and signing at 7pm at the Drawn & Quarterly Bookstore, with creators David Collier and Phillipe Girard. Come visit me!
There are more events to come, including a launch party, a gallery show with Rebecca Kraatz and so much more!
Help me get the word out, guys! Reblog, retweet, everything! I’m really proud of this book, and I think you’re going to love it. But don’t take my word for it - check these awesome quotes:
“Mike Holmes’ work finds subtlety in the epic and cosmic connections in tiny moments. You’re going to love every moment of this.” - Patton Oswalt, comedian and author of Zombie Spaceship Wasteland
“Mike Holmes is insanely talented and his work bristles with the kind of humanity and insight that is rare in comics – or in humans, for that matter.” - Tom Scharpling, host of The Best Show on WFMU and one half of comedy duo Scharpling & Wurster
Thanks!
-Mike
