I was in Toronto for a week and didn’t have the opportunity to post these, but I’m still sad and it always a good time for the Beasties.
Q:You've been talking about this new tablet - I've been drawing seriously on paper for about 3/4 of a year now. Is it a good idea to start learning how to use a computer with my art or should I focus more on physical mediums first? Also, I'm really impressed by the Mikenesses - you should McBess yourself!
I’ve never done any serious drawing with a tablet. I doodled with my old Wacom but produced nothing I’d be proud to post. It’s going to be a while before I feel comfortable enough to create finished pieces with this tablet, but so far it’s been pretty great and I’m getting the hang of it. I’ll never stop drawing on paper, of course - it’s where I’m most at home.
I would say that for this price it is definitely worth a shot to start drawing digitally, because you never know when that skill might come in handy. I’ve had jobs come up where it would be a major asset to use a tablet.
The Monoprice tablet just arrived. I’ve been playing with it for the last hour. I think I love this thing. Digital drawing will be happening.
Remember - this cost me $65 with shipping.
GPOY.
Hey I drew that! ( I am still very excited that I got to draw an Adventure Time comic)

Q:Hey Mike! I bought a Dan Telfer print and a Patton Oswalt print from your booth today. Just wanted to say it was great to meet you!
You too! Thanks for coming by the table!
If there’s anyone not at TCAF, get here QUICK! (w/kateordie)
If you’re at TCAF this weekend, I’ll have 50 copies of the Free Comic Book Day issue of Adventure Time (that I drew a story for) on hand! Come upstairs and visit and ask for one!
If you’re not in Toronto on this Saturday, May 5, you can still get a copy at any local comic shop that’s participating in Free Comic Book Day. But get there early, because these things are going to FLY.
Look what I just picked up the day before I leave for TCAF! 300 copies of this book some jerk made!
It’s weird getting a new book. It never fully sinks in. This is awesome, though! Thanks again to everyone who helped and donated and told other people about it! They will be available at TCAF this weekend, and then online when I get back the next week!
This is an old one, a commission I did for a buddy in 2010.
ah, um, hm. shouldn’t… the punchee’s face be going the other way?
I invite you to consider that Cap is not striking him in that direction.

Ray Frenden reviews the too-cheap-to-be-true Monoprice graphics tablets. How do they stack up to industry standard Wacoms?
After spending a week with the 6.25“x10” Monoprice, my Yiynova and Cintiq remain unplugged and I gave my Intuos away to a friend. The Monoprice tracks subtle pressure variances and small movements with less lag and more crisp fidelity than any of the others. It is, put crudely, fucking awesome, in both OSX Lion and Windows 7 x64.
Crazy, I just ordered this exact one an hour ago and then saw this. A lot of people I trust say it’s legit, and the $65 price tag (incl. shipping) is way too good to not pull the trigger on this.
I draw with a mouse. I’ve never gotten into using the tablet/stylus I have :a 10-year-old WACOM that interfaces poorly with either Mac or Illustrator or both.
If I had $65 to throw around this review would make me consider trying it again.
Yeah, aside from an unsuccessful swing at digital illustration with a $200 4x6 Wacom in 2006 - it’s been sitting in a plastic bin since then - I’m purely pencil and ink (I use a mouse to color - poorly). I’m ready to get back in the game, if only for the efficiency factor.
Okay, I just had way too much fun drawing these guys.

Taking a break from thumbnails to sketch Plas.
I would never beg for a job, but I also would not say no if I was offered a chance to draw this dude in comics somehow.
